Describe the impact the disaster had on the environment and people?
The main problem the Tisza disaster affected was that it contaminated the pond near baia mare, Northern Romania and Hungary. Then into a nearby creek and it ran into Szamos, a tributary of the Tisza river the into the Tisza river on the 4th on February. It affected the human health because the cyanide went into their drinking water.

This also affected the people because they lost their jobs because there was no fish to sell and there was only dead fish, but people didn’t want to buy the dead fish. The cyanide killed the wildlife as well because they would come to drink water from the Tisza River. Hundreds of tons of dead fish were taken out of the Tisza River. And hundreds more small fish got swept downstream. Birds and wildlife, which normally feed off the fish, have also been affected by the cyanide.

It affected the people that work because they used to sell four or five and a half tons of the fish in previous years. But in one week they lost the market. The entire food chain collapsed. The dead fish collected from the surfaces of the two rivers alone was 100,000kg. People went to steal fish from the local dump. The people that worked in the restaurant needed to order fish because there wasn’t any.
